Old Testament InterpretationAnswered
Did Noah and Abraham know each other, since their lifespans overlapped?
A viewer notes that there is an overlap in the timelines of Noah and Abraham and asks whether the two men knew each other.
Answer
Their lives did overlap; Noah overlapped Abraham by about fifty-eight years. You get that quite a few times in the early genealogies, like Methuselah, who at nine hundred sixty-nine years was the oldest man in the Bible and lived right up until just before the Flood. So Noah's life would overlap Abraham's. But that does not mean they knew each other. Abraham was from the Chaldees, and who knows where Noah ended up after the ark came to rest near Ararat in Turkey; that is quite a distance. So they may well have never known each other.
