Did the children of Israel build the pyramids in Egypt?
A viewer asks whether the children of Israel built the pyramids in Egypt.
Answer
Probably no, because those pyramids are older than the Israelites. Abraham did not come on the scene until about 2000 BC, Jacob about 1800, and he moved his family of about seventy into Egypt around 1860 or so, but the pyramids were built long before that. The Egyptians were constantly building something, which is probably why they lasted longer than any civilization known to man, some 2,200 years, helped by the Nile. The Egyptians did put the Israelites to work making bricks, which are smaller than the great stones of the pyramids, for dams, housing, and everything they were always building. There was a confrontation about whether they could mix straw with the brick, and that is when the Israelites decided to get out of Egypt, but it was not to build the pyramids.
