In Matthew 19, does the "exception clause" allow divorce and remarriage?

Answer

No. The “except for fornication” clause refers to unions that were invalid from the start, such as incestuous or unlawful marriages. Once a valid marriage exists, it cannot be broken by man. Jesus is clear that divorce and remarriage while one’s spouse lives is adultery. The Church cannot dissolve what God has joined.
