Heaven, Hell, PurgatoryAnswered
In Numbers 16 men are swallowed by the earth; does this mean hell is in the center of the earth?
A viewer asks whether Numbers 16:29-33, where men are swallowed up by the earth and go down alive, can be interpreted to mean that hell is in the center of the earth.
Answer
No. The ground parted and they were swallowed into the cavern that opened, and then the earth closed up again; that is what the text says. They did not have to go more than ten, fifteen, or twenty feet down until they hit the bottom of the cavern, and then it closed over them. They are not in hell; their bodies are still in the earth, in a grave just a few feet deeper than the usual six. So that is not hell.
