Is it right to create a 'Hebrew Catholic Rite' that reintroduces Jewish laws and customs?
A viewer asks whether it is a good idea, or already condemned, for someone (Gideon Lazar) to create a Hebrew Catholic rite introducing Jewish laws and customs into the Church.
Answer
This is totally wrong. Some Jewish converts think they can bring back Hebrew customs, circumcision and the like, into the Catholic faith, as Roy Schoeman and others have wanted to. Judaism was once a religion that glorified God, but it no longer is; the sacrifices are over, circumcision is over, and the Council of Florence was crystal clear on that. Those things had one reason to exist, to bring Jesus Christ to the world, and that has been done, so we have no recourse to Jewish ceremonies or customs anymore. To me it is prideful, and it goes against what the Catholic Church has taught; there is no reason for it to exist.
