I think that is a pretty good analogy. In physics, once you start a rotating device by giving it a push, since somebody has to start it, it takes over, and if there is no gravity outside, as there would not be outside the universe, it becomes a freely rotating system whose angular momentum goes on ad infinitum. So in your analogy you would have an eternal clock, and that is exactly why time is so precise, because the sidereal rate, 23 hours 56 minutes 4.09 seconds, has not changed one iota; you might get a fluctuation of a thousandth of a millisecond, but it averages to zero, which for a universe this size is remarkable accuracy. The galaxies, hundreds of billions of them, plus the ether, give the universe the mass that sustains that unstoppable angular momentum. So the geocentric universe, which is not expanding but simply rotating, is a precise clock. The Big Bang universe, by contrast, has to invent dark matter and dark energy it cannot find, expand at four times the speed of light, and patch up an inflation period, all to avoid admitting a fixed Earth.
