What does Scripture actually tell us about the fall of Lucifer?
A viewer, Joseph, shares a Protestant animated video on the fall of Lucifer into Satan and asks how we actually know anything about Satan's fall from Scripture and whether such accounts are accurate.

I was not impressed. There is a kind of speculation out there that before Genesis there was a great battle between Lucifer and the angels that threw the universe into chaos, and that this is why Genesis 1:2 says the earth was without form and void and darkness was on the face of the deep. People take verses like Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 and apply them to the devil being cast down from heaven, and there may be some allusion to the devil there, but not to that timing. Nothing went on before God created the heavens and the earth; there was only God. Genesis 1:2 is literal, God made space and the earth, and the earth was dark and covered by the deep, exactly as described. There can be a symbolic tie-in, since the light of creation is a figure of Christ coming into the world and the darkness a figure of man's coming fall, but you never trade the literal meaning for the spiritual one; it actually happened as Genesis describes, or God is a liar. So I would put no stock in that video's pre-Genesis history of Lucifer; it has essentially no backing from Scripture.
