What is your assessment of Pope Leo XIII?

Basically he was a good pope; I have never come across a negative aspect of his papacy. He was very conservative, had a love for laborers and a distaste for those who exploited them, and Rerum Novarum is one of the best encyclicals ever written, something the present Pope Leo XIV also seems ready to fight for, and somebody has to fight for the poor. On evolution he stuck to his guns: in Arcanum Divinae Sapientiae, around 1881, he taught that whatever evolution says, the fact is that Eve came from the rib of Adam. That already removed the female side from any evolutionary account, and evolutionists have never solved how the female enters the population, whereas the Bible has the only answer, God made them male and female. He was fighting the evolutionists hand over fist right after Darwin's 1859 Origin of Species, and he made a good impact. The pope after him, Pius XII, would forbid Catholics from believing in evolution because no one had solved polygenism, the claim that many apes became man at once, since Catholic doctrine allows only one, Adam. So yes, Leo XIII was a good pope.
