A Critical Analysis of Karl Keating and His Book "The New Geocentrists"

When a well-known apologist sets out to discredit a movement and the people in it, the charges deserve a careful reply. This is that reply, from Robert Sungenis, executive producer of the feature film The Principle and director of CAI Publishing, Inc., which publishes the Galileo Was Wrong series.

Working through Karl Keating's book The New Geocentrists, Sungenis documents what he considers a pattern of exaggerations, innuendo, half-truths, and misinformation, and answers it point by point. He identifies 111 errors across the book's 355 pages, some of them, he argues, made deliberately even where the truth was known. Because Keating also makes Sungenis's own credibility a central target, reviving matters long set aside, Sungenis addresses those as well, both to correct the record and to defend honorable and dedicated Catholics whose treatment in the book he found indefensible.

He closes with the challenge that followed the book: after publication, Keating was invited to a formal debate by two of his peers, Sungenis and Christopher Ferrara, and declined both. In the absence of that cross-examination, this response stands in its place.
