Mutual Submission of Spouses - A Critical Analysis of Mulieris Dignitatem and Ephesians 5, 21-22

A teaching that began in Protestant circles, that husbands are to submit to their wives, has increasingly seeped into Catholic homes as well, often in the name of a new reading of Scripture. In this study, Robert Sungenis takes up one of the most contested passages on the subject, Ephesians 5:21-22: and be subject to one another in fear of Christ; wives be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord.

Working carefully through Scripture and Tradition, and engaging Mulieris Dignitatem, Robert shows biblically and dogmatically why the idea of mutual submission, understood as husbands submitting to wives as wives submit to husbands, was never taught by the Fathers, by earlier popes, or by Scripture itself.
