How Can I Get to Heaven?

The abridgement of Not By Faith Alone, about a third the length of its parent, with larger print, plain chapter titles and no footnotes or appendices. Nine chapters, each of them a question: did Paul teach that I can be saved by faith alone, does James teach that I am justified by my works, is justification a one-time event or an ongoing process, can I lose my salvation, does God choose me or do I choose Him, can I know for sure I am going to heaven.

The method is to work the disputed verses in order rather than argue downward from doctrine. Romans 3:28 is taken apart on the grammar, on the ground that faith apart from works of the law excludes only works of the law, and not love, obedience or hope, with Galatians 5:6 and the obedience of faith in Romans 1:5 and 16:26 brought against the Protestant reading. From there: Romans 2:5-10 on eternal life as the reward of good works, James on Abraham and Rahab, the rich young man and the good thief, John 5:24, Romans 8:38-39 and John 10:28-29 on eternal security, Jacob and Esau on predestination, 1 Corinthians 1-4 and 2 Corinthians 5:10 on the judgment of works, and purgatory at the close. Written for the beginner, the student and the non-scholarly layman, and aimed at RCIA and small Bible studies.
