Can anyone actually prove that the Earth moves? Sixty short arguments here are aimed at the Catholic who assumes the question was closed centuries ago, and they draw in turn on the history, the science and the Scriptures.
The case leans on the physicists themselves. Einstein, that attempts to make the Earth's motion perceptible in terrestrial experiments "led to a negative result." Lincoln Barnett, that "no physical experiment ever proved that the Earth actually is in motion." Hawking, that either the Earth or the sun may be taken as at rest. I. Bernard Cohen, that Galileo's telescopic discoveries fit the system Tycho Brahe had invented just before he made them. Newton, that "celestial bodies can move around the Earth at rest, as in the Tychonic system." Poincare, that research into the influence of the Earth's movement returned results that "were always negative."
