Did Jerome make mistakes in the Vulgate, such as translating Ur as 'fire' in Nehemiah 9:7?

Jerome was not perfect; he was a man like you and me and he made mistakes in his Vulgate, and I can prove it. I am not here to downgrade him, only to say he could err in translation. In fact I recently came across one in his New Testament translation of 1 Peter 3:18, where, not understanding the Greek case, he mistranslated it in a way that later produced a whole theology that Christ descended to Hades to preach to the Old Testament dead so they could be released at His resurrection, a belief that grew out of a faulty translation. That is a case where a faulty translation leads to a faulty belief. As for Nehemiah 9:7, that passage recalls how God brought Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees, and the Hebrew word is Ur; I will need to check what Jerome put in the Vulgate and report back next week, but the general point stands that he was capable of error.
