Do astronomers still propose the Oort Cloud, and do comets prove a young universe?
A viewer named Jason asks whether astronomers still propose the existence of the Oort Cloud, and whether comets prove a young universe.
Answer
Yes, they still believe the Oort Cloud is out there, well beyond Pluto, and that is not surprising: our solar system would have such a cloud out there to protect it from what is moving around in space. But it does not prove a young universe, nor does it disprove one; there is nothing about the Oort Cloud or the Kuiper Belt that is tied to age. Scripture says nothing about them, but obviously those bodies are there, acting to impede any celestial body headed our way, the same way a meteor is usually burned up in the atmosphere before it hits the ground, and the way the earth's magnetic field shields us from cosmic rays. So the clouds and belts appear to serve as protection for the earth and for other bodies out there, but there is no age conclusion to draw from them.
