Whoever told you that is not correct. First, the Septuagint is not inspired; only John 8:58 is inspired. But in fact the wording matches: John 8:58 uses ego eimi, 'I am,' and Exodus 3:14 in the Septuagint has the same construction, ego eimi ho on. So it is exactly the same, and there is your answer; the claim is simply false.
