Is each person assigned both a good angel and a bad angel at birth?

There is no bad angel assigned to you, but there is something to be said in Catholic historical theology that each person is assigned a guardian angel, a good angel. Scripture implies guardian angels, as when Jesus warns about scandalizing children in Matthew 18, saying their angels in heaven always behold the face of their Father; it is implied that each of these children has an angel assigned to them who communicates with God. That angel acts as a kind of legal witness to events on earth, not because God lacks knowledge, but in the legal sense that verification takes a witness. From that passage the idea developed that each of us has a guardian angel, and nothing in church doctrine has come along to mitigate it, so we continue to teach it as a traditional belief, though, like limbo, it has never been declared a dogma. There are open questions, such as whether unbaptized people also have guardian angels, but no one is debating that now, so for now we take the traditional belief that at least baptized members have one. The whole angelic world remains mysterious to us; we use the words soul and spirit, but we do not really comprehend what they are.
