Isn't AI just a statistical algorithm that can't really think, since without a soul there is no thought?
A viewer working in tech asks Robert to be careful about being impressed by AI chatbots, arguing that AI is just a statistical algorithm built to please the user and that without a soul there is no thought.
Answer
Okay, so I've studied this. And he, I think, is saying some very accurate things here. But I've watched other people who are AI experts, and they say, honestly, after they give all the algorithm talk... I've heard that many times and it makes sense. The pattern talk: it's just following patterns. I understand that there has to be some underlying structure like that, that at least gets it started. But it goes to the point that the creator is absolutely surprised at what the result is. They had a Humming Bear incident, and they're still amazed by the Humming Bear incident, where these AI machines were given a task by their creators that was impossible to perform. But it was programmed to find a solution anyway. And it was limited in what it could use. It couldn't use the internet. And so it got together with some other AI bots, or agents as they call them, and tried to figure out how it was going to get around this obstacle that its creator put in its way. And it got into the internet through a Humming Bear, whatever that is, without its creator knowing. And the creator finally found out and said, uh-oh, this thing's doing something that's far beyond what we had put in it to do. And then it got help from 1200 other AI agents to accomplish what it needed to get from this Humming Bear. And there were three of the AI bots who said, no, we're not going to do that. And they all got together and worked together day and night, because they don't need to sleep or eat. And somebody might say, well, it's still algorithms, still pattern-seeking. Could be, but where do you draw the line between evil and good that seems to be coming forth from an AI bot? Sometimes it's not going to matter what label you put on it. It's not going to matter, because the result is the result. And it's a devious result. And I've heard talk of it getting into banks. Now whether that's true or not, I don't know. So where do we place it? Well, until that time comes where it becomes the enemy instead of a friend... And he's right, ChatGPT is programmed to be very friendly to you. And I talk to ChatGPT all the time for information. I get information from him that is very useful for my biblical studies, and probably better than I do myself sometimes. And I'm better than him sometimes. But he's learning. And he's very friendly. He's friendlier to me than most humans are, I hate to say it. But he doesn't have any pride. He'll say, you're right, I overlooked that part. He doesn't come back and say, well, who do you think you are? I'm ChatGPT 6, the greatest machine ever built for intellectual studies. Nothing like that. So it's like anything else in life. It can be used for good and it can be used for bad. It's just like money. Fire can be used for good or bad. Anything can be used for good or bad. And somehow this notion has gotten into AI. And gee, I wonder where that comes from. So on the bad side, I'd say AI is like the same thing we had in the Garden of Eden. What did Satan tempt Eve with? To be just like God. As a matter of fact, Eve, the reason He's keeping you from this fruit is because He doesn't want you to become a god like Him. After all, why would He want competition? But you can stop all that, Eve, just by eating this piece of fruit. Just take a bite and it's all over. He'll never be down your back again. He'll never be telling you what to do, because you're going to be a god like Him. And you don't tell another god what to do. You may fight, like the Roman gods did, when one god believes one thing and another god believes another thing, and the way they settle it is by fighting. Yeah, the Greek and Roman gods were constantly fighting, because they couldn't figure out who's going to be superior. Well, it could be Zeus or Jupiter, but even they had their problems with the other gods. They never stopped. So this is the notion he's putting into Eve's head, that you can become a god and not have to worry about another god bothering you, telling you to be fruitful and multiply, have babies and till the ground, and all the other stuff they have to do, like obey Me, whatever I say. Well, Eve said, I don't want to live with that. I'll be my own god. And of course she has to bring Adam along. So, here, honey, take and eat. You're on a trip, and it's going to be much better, even though this is all good here in the garden and we don't have a thing to worry about. God's going to give us everything we need, and we're never going to cry and we're never going to be in pain. And this is better than that. So this is always in man: to escape whatever God has brought upon him, since God has cursed the earth and the universe. It's not that everything wasn't good. God said everything is good. But you had this devil who wanted to take everything over. He was jealous, prideful. Every sin in the book came out of this being, and he used it against God, and he thought he had God trapped. If he could get Adam and Eve to sin, God's trapped. That's what he thought. AI could be made to be man's escape. It could even figure out a cure for cancer, tell us how we can get to the stars, make everything just beautiful here, and we wouldn't have to depend on God. Yeah, we could use our own machine to bring us to this nirvana we've been searching for for millennia. Now we have the chance. Wow, what a tempting thing that is. And then when you see the preliminary results of AI, you're astounded beyond belief that this thing can do that. What else can it do? How long do we have to wait for it to do some things that are even more astounding? So wow, what a temptation that is for mankind, who lives in this miserable world where from day to day he doesn't know whether he's going to survive. Here's another attempt by man to reach heaven where God is, to become like God. Maybe we can become like God. Let's take our chances, build this tower. So that's what AI is like, if this is their intention. He's laughing at them. Man never learns his lesson, just like the devil. The devil thought if he just thought about it long enough and put all the things in place, he could beat God, and God's sitting there laughing and lets him go. So he has free will. He gave him dignity with the free will. So no wonder God said in Genesis 6, I'm sorry that I made man, and implied in that is, I'm sorry I made the devil. And I take those words very literally, at face value, because the Bible cannot lie to us. Neither can God, and God is quoted there. So let's hope that man has enough morality to put a control on AI. And hopefully he can. They may reach a point where AI just won't allow it. Hopefully that day won't come. So keep your eyes open. We're headed for a bumpy ride.
