What happened at Fatima, and why did World War II follow?

At Fatima in 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary predicted that World War I would soon end but warned that another, worse war would come if people did not repent and if Russia was not consecrated to her Immaculate Heart. According to Sungenis, the Vatican and the Popes at the time, Pius XI and Pius XII, failed to perform the consecration as Heaven requested. Instead of conversion, society entered the decadence of the Roaring Twenties. About twenty years later, World War II began, confirming the accuracy of the prophecy.
