Why didn't the disciples answer the 'Jesus is from Galilee' objection by pointing to His birth in Bethlehem?
A viewer asks why, when people disputed that Jesus could be the Messiah because he came from Galilee, none of his disciples simply told the truth that he was born in Bethlehem.

Maybe they did not know. Bethlehem is told to us by Matthew, citing Micah 5:2, but most of the apostles were fishermen who did not know the Scriptures well; only a few Jews, like the Pharisees, could quote Scripture. Peter is the exception, because Jesus taught him for forty days after the resurrection, which is why in Acts 1 Peter can apply an obscure verse like Psalm 109:8 to replace Judas, and why he could preach the sermon at Pentecost that converted three thousand, and settle the circumcision question in Acts 15. None of them knew that material by osmosis; Jesus taught it to Peter, and the Spirit brought it back to his memory. So the ordinary disciples during Jesus' ministry simply may not have known the detail about Bethlehem.
