This second edition replaces the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition of 1966 with the author's own literal translation of Romans and James, and enhances the detailed exegesis of the first edition with additional footnotes and apologetics commentaries.

The third volume of the CASB, now in its second edition (January 7, 2009), is a one-of-a-kind exegetical commentary. Centered on soteriology, and on justification in particular, it analyzes these two much-contested letters over more than 600 pages of verse-by-verse study, leaving no relevant subject untouched: in-depth word studies, contextual and textual analysis, patristic testimony, and conciliar, papal, and catechetical citations. It shows, as few works before it, that Paul's epistle to the Romans is the very foundation on which Catholic doctrine is built, in ecclesiology as well as soteriology, and that the teaching of James dovetails perfectly with St. Paul's.
