Commentary on the Catholic Douay-Rheims New Testament Exegeted from the Original Greek and Latin - Volume 3 - Romans to First Timothy

To defend the faith, a Catholic first has to understand what the sacred text actually says, in the language its authors used. This volume opens the epistles from Romans through First Timothy that way. For the first time in Catholic history, the New Testament is conservatively exegeted from the original Greek in a detailed analysis of grammar and etymology, with occasional attention to the Vulgate's Latin, to the English of the Douay-Rheims, and to many other English translations for comparison.

Every verse is interpreted from the grammar and context of the passage. Key magisterial documents are included where appropriate, alongside quotations and references from the Fathers and medievals, catechisms, encyclopedias, and other dogmatic sources. The exegesis follows the grammatical-historical method, with occasional recourse to typology and symbolism, especially in prophetic passages, and it weighs the Greek textual-critical data wherever those variants bear on the meaning. Each verse carries numerous cross-references, giving the Commentary more cross-references than any Catholic Bible in history. Throughout, it holds the traditional Catholic position that all Scripture is inspired by the Holy Spirit and wholly inerrant in its history as well as its soteriology.

The text is set among roughly 1,000 of the most celebrated biblical paintings in history across the three volumes, drawn from the Gothic, Romanesque, Renaissance, Baroque, and other movements, many reproduced at full length. The set runs to three volumes, each about 700 pages on a 6 by 9 hardback frame for easy handling, a study source and family heirloom meant to last for generations.
