When Fr. Robinson's The Realist Guide to Religion and Science set out to reconcile the Catholic faith with the conclusions of modern science, Robert Sungenis answered with this detailed rebuttal. Across 564 pages he argues that a number of those scientific conclusions are not settled fact but modern heresies, and traces the effect they have had on the Church.

The book opens with a refresher on science and history and a critical look at modern science from the inside, recounts Sungenis' own exchanges with Fr. Robinson, and then works through chapters 7 to 11 of The Realist Guide in turn. Along the way it takes up fundamentalism versus liberalism in biblical interpretation, geocentrism, the age of the Earth and the Great Flood, Galileo, radiometric and stratigraphic dating, Mary Schweitzer and the T-Rex, the meaning of the Hebrew “bara,” the testimony of the Church Fathers on the age of the Earth and the Flood, and the Big Bang and the cosmic microwave radiation.
