How do you answer someone who says you are only Catholic because of where you were born?

That is just the way life is; we deal with reality like anyone else. The chances of becoming Catholic if you were born into a Catholic family are pretty great, but whether you stay depends on your experience, your education, and who influences you, and a good percentage leave; the two fastest-growing Protestant groups, the Assemblies of God and the Pentecostals, say 80 percent of their pews are filled by ex-Catholics. On the other side, Protestants become Catholic because they get fed up with the endless arguing and appreciate having one authority, the Pope, though when they get serious they find plenty of bickering among Catholics too. We do have a better bandage than the Protestants, because we have popes and bishops who can make the final decision, but the reality is there is a lot of bickering. So it is a yes-and-no answer, depending on the time and place.
