Is Colossians 2:16 the best verse to answer a Seventh-Day Adventist about the Sabbath?
A viewer asks whether Colossians 2:16 is the best Bible verse to tell a Seventh-Day Adventist to stop judging Catholics for not observing the Sabbath.
Answer
It is a start, but it is better to educate them that the New Covenant in Christ supersedes and nullifies the old covenant, including all its laws. The whole Mosaic covenant, even the Ten Commandments, was set aside, because you cannot have two covenants working at once. We do still obey some of those commandments, like "thou shalt not steal," but only because the New Covenant took them over, as in Romans 13, not because the old covenant is still in force. The one law the New Testament did not carry over is the Sabbath law; we worship on the first day, not the seventh. Colossians 2:16 is one piece of evidence that the New Testament church refused to carry the Sabbath law over.
